Lord of the Rings valley

Another must-visit in the Berner Oberland is the Lauterbrunnen valley. We stayed in the village of Lauterbrunnen and took an early hike up to Wengen where the famous and longest downhill ski race ends. Just past the train station there's a beautiful view of the valley and the waterfalls. The Lauterbrunnen valley with its 72 waterfalls served J.R.R. Tolkien as an inspiration for the Elven town Rivendell in his novel “Lord of the Rings”.
